A Message from the CEO

Greetings from St. Luke Lutheran Community!

As President and Chief Executive Officer of St. Luke Lutheran Community, it is my pleasure to welcome you to our website.

St. Luke Lutheran Community is a faith-based, not for profit organization founded in 1954 by the Lutheran Women’s League. Our moral owners are 53 Lutheran churches in greater Stark, Summit, and Tuscarawas Counties.

In North Canton, we are St. Luke Lutheran Community - North Canton, a 10-acre campus which includes a full continuum of care choices from short term rehabilitation to skilled nursing and memory support. We also have two venues for assisted living and The Waterford at St. Luke, a 68-apartment independent living complex. St. Luke recently completed the construction of a new addition which houses a state-of-the-art, short-term rehabilitation center and an assisted living facility. The St. Luke Rehabilitation Center has 24 private rooms with lounges, private dining and provides an excellent transition from hospital to home. Dogwood Commons, a 19-unit assisted living facility, has a separate entrance and all the modern amenities. The new addition is designed to provide care in a setting which supports the concept of person-centered care.

St. Luke Lutheran Community - Portage Lakes was acquired in 2004 and is a 56-bed nursing facility with 15 suites of assisted living located on Turkeyfoot Lake. St. Luke - Portage Lakes’ small size and lakefront setting makes it very unique.

Our newest location is St. Luke Lutheran Community - Minerva, a 30-suite, assisted living campus. This innovative community is modeled after the nationally acclaimed neighborhood concept, which has significantly changed the perception of assisted living for residents and staff from one of an institution to that of a more homelike environment. As a centerpiece to this campus, there is a virtual Main Street with a church, bank, movie theater and beauty shop.

Our mission statement: “St. Luke Lutheran Community provides faith-based services to enrich the lives of older adults.” This is a righteous and ambitious mission that continues to inspire and motivate all of us who serve on behalf of St. Luke. Great challenges lie ahead in the future of care for older adults. St. Luke Lutheran Community plans to meet these challenges with the same compassion and excellence we have since 1954.

Thank you to all who support our important mission. We sincerely value your continued support and prayers for the St. Luke Lutheran Community ministry.
